The Problem
Millions of people cannot vote in UK elections.
Over 4 million residents cannot choose their MP and over 1 million people cannot vote at all.
Current voter eligibility is too complex.
Our right to vote depends on our citizenship, nation of residence, date of arrival and on bilateral voting rights agreements. These complexities make it difficult for people to participate in politics.
Our democracy does not represent our communities.
There are 36 seats where the number of unenfranchised residents outnumber the number of votes cast for the sitting MP.
The Solution: Residence-based Voting Rights
Residence-based voting rights (RBVR) is a system where the eligibility to vote in elections is determined by a person’s residence in a country rather than by their nationality. We believe everyone who lives in the UK should get a say in decisions affecting them. Our vote is our power, and we want to use it.
Our Votes for All Campaign is advocating for:
1. All settled residents in the UK to have the right to vote in Parliamentary elections.
2. All residents to have the right to vote in local elections.
Votes for All is possible.
Scotland and Wales have already introduced residence-based voting rights.
Many countries are now introducing residence-based voting rights at the national level, including New Zealand, Belgium, Denmark and many more.
Various MPs have supported the call for Votes for All.
21 local authorities have passed our motion for votes for all.
But we need you! Become a champion for Votes for All now!
