How representative are local councillors across the UK? The answer is simple: we do not yet know.

But we now know what diversity looks like in London councils.

The first fully representative survey of London elected councillors shows there is still a lot of work to be done for our politics to fully represent our communities.

Did you know that in London…

  • Only 8% of councillors are under 30 years old, compared to 22% of Londoners?

  • 79% of councillors have a university degree or equivalent, compared to 46% of Londoners?

  • Only 8% of councillors live in subsidised or social housing, compared to 23% of Londoners?

We need our local and national politics to reflect the diversity of expertise, as well as lived experience, in our communities. Read the full report to find out more.
