Voter Registration & Political Participation

Whether you have the right to vote or not, Migrant Democracy Project is supporting migrants across the UK to get involved in politics. We are registering our community to vote, getting educated, and taking collective action!

Voter Registration

Politicians only get elected and are to able to implement policies because of the power they borrow from each individual voter. At every election, we see politicians making pledges to the public on how they will improve our lives. Yet, time and time again, we see politicians and political parties making proposals that will only make the lives of migrants more difficult in the UK.

1 in 6 usual residents in England and Wales were born outside of the UK. We make up a significant size of the population! Yet, our interests are ignored. Only 66% of eligible EU and Commonwealth residents are registered to vote and over 1 million migrant residents have no right to vote at all!

That’s why we need migrants across the UK to get voting now.

Migrant Democracy Project runs regular voter registration drives across the UK to support people to register to vote and get informed about their democratic rights.

We attend community festivals, visit migrant-owned businesses, knock on doors, partner with organisations, and hold events to get our community registered to vote and ready to vote.

Political Participation

Migrant Democracy Project runs non-partisan workshops on UK democracy. From visits to ESL classes to sessions with partner organisations, we get migrant residents informed about their political system. We explain how Parliament works, the role of councillors, and how our elections are organised. Whether we have the right to vote or not, our politicians are there to represent us, and we are organised to get our interests met!
